OK yes I too want to be one consciousness with many beaks.

But also! They can hear way above and way below what we can. Infrasound down to seven octaves below what we hear! We can hear/feel down to about 50hertz (the vibrating 2nd smallest string, the G string, on a bass guitar), they can hear your hand waving back and forth once every other second (half a hertz)! Or maybe that’s how they know where they are on a map? They hear the subtle rumblings of the terrain? They listen to the topology? They have two whole senses we lack! A compass sense (“which way am I going”) and a map sense (“and where in some region am I”). The extreme hearing range might form part of that map sense. It also probably tells them where every train in the city is, and when danger is approaching. Also! They are some of the most skillful flyers.

Pigeons are great, let’s be pigeons!

And thank you for your words y que disfrutes de España!

Incredible. I suppose what seems like magic or “one consciousness with many beaks” to me/us is actually different or heightened sensory abilities and capacities! How funny, even after all this time and all this claiming that I am not the center, I still think the world operates according to humans, ie me. HA.

May pigeons be the meek who inherit the earth, their reign one of tenderness with many beaks.

btw curious to get your thoughts on something! all of the above pigeon facts were on my mind while writing and in fact referenced by my last poem, "the pigeon is having none of your shit" https://scientificanimism.substack.com/p/the-pigeon-is-having-none-of-your

other pigeon fun-facts that were referenced: their best-in-class flight abilities; their near-360 vision; the fact that they need to bob their heads while walking to achieve depth perception.

i think maybe poems are best if left sorta iykyk, without too much explanation, but maybe it would have been a richer experience if there was a "hey! here's pigeon fun facts" at the beginning, or end, or in footnotes on the poem itself.

would you have appreciated such a Pigeon Primer? how would you want to see it incorporated?

I think you executed well already, and you did so by being semi-discreet. I appreciate the iykyk vibe. I think poetry (at least the best poetry) ought to feel more like a secret than something explicitly pointed out (tho this can have it’s place too I if done so poetically). And by secret, I guess I mean kind of like when something happens to group of people randomly, but you notice something within it and then suddenly someone else winks at you noticing it, and only you two notice what you’re noticing… know what I mean? Hehe, but that’s just me.

yes, I think you're describing what I mean by "sorta iykyk"!
